Professional Etiquette — small things that matter
- Be on time. If you’re going to be late, message before the start time, not after.
- When receiving feedback: acknowledge → clarify → confirm next step. Don’t argue in the moment.
- When blocked: state (a) the blocker, (b) what you’ve tried, (c) what you need. Never just “I’m stuck.”
- Say thanks. Specifically. “Thanks for taking the time to review the doc — the API section is much clearer now.”
- Reply to messages, even briefly. A 👍 is better than radio silence.
- Camera on for team meetings (unless the team norm is otherwise). It builds relationships.
- Don’t ghost your manager on Fridays. A one-line end-of-week update goes a long way.
- Dress for the room. Match the norm — one small step up on your first day is a safe bet.
- Keep your calendar honest. Block your lunch. Block focus time. Show when you’re actually free.
